JD Jet kit

When we bought my bike, 2007 CRF250R, it came with a JD Jet kit the guy never used because he didn't see a need to. Well, seeing as I get to ride for the first time in 4 and a half months, I decided to dig it out of the box and do some research. Figure i'd start here. Does anyone have a jet kit? What are the benefits/disadvantages? Also, sorry if this is the wrong forum. I figured since I'm asking about the kit, not the bike, it would go here. TIA! :thumb:

I have one for my KX250. It helped but my bike still needed a bit more fine tuning. I've heard a lot of people who put them in and it works great.

it depends upon the bike and year as to whether or not it is needed. Some need to have the needle changed and some dont. Some can be fixed with a cheaper common needle and sometimes the JD kit is the best option. So you need to research your bike and see if it is one of the ones that it helps. I know thats what you are doing here, but go to a larger forum where more guys have your bike to get more answers.

Easy. Probably took me 20 mins.to install. That was my first time into a bike carb too.

Hmm. Alright , thanks!

So check out a forum like ThumperTalk? They have a crap ton of people..

There are at least a few guys on the TT 250R forum that know everything there is to know about that bike 144. They will be able to steer you in the right direction :thumb:

Jetting is a fine art and no two bikes are the same. I suggest reading this article Primal wrote up. It can take a lot of trial and error to get your jetting spot on.

BTW yes that was written for a kx250f, however it still applies to any 4 stroke.

I'm seeing a lot of stuff on improved throttle response. But my biggest worry is riding in the hills? Altitiude change, that kinda thing. I'll check the article out! :thumb:

BTW I don't see where you mentioned what exactly you don't like about your current jetting? Is it bogging, bad throttle response, popping, etc...

If you want the honest answer, I dont remember..I havent ridden the damn thing in so long, I dont remember. I only rode it for about a month before I broke my foot. :( However, I do remember I would have liked a little snappier/quicker throttle response. And I was just wondering if the JD kit would help. I'm completely clueless when it comes to jetting and the carb, but I've got a friend who's installed them on every bike he's owned.

BTW, this article is AWESOME.

Yup Primal (usually :P) knows what he's talking about. :thumb:

I'd suggest riding your bike again and try to figure out what your complaint is.

i have the JD jet kit in my 2011 530 exc. i followed the directions that came with it to a tee and it was pretty much perfect first try. i might be a tad bit rich but only when im high altitude.

the only downside i noticed was it made a huge difference in gas mileage compared to stock jetting. im sorry im not a lot of help but it was almost a year ago that i did it and i dont remember everything. I know i put some rubber band type gasket thing and it made my throttle way snappier and i no longer get any of that bog if you twist really fast.

only reason why it was way longer then a 20 min job for me is cause i didnt know what i was doing and with my bike i have to remove the pipe to twist the carb enough to get to the top and bottom. AND to remove the pipe i have to disassemble the sub frame half way. i didnt know this when i did mine and i spent a long time figuring this out
