Yeah, I thought that too, but it turns out that the 88 exhaust has an extra bolt that the 87 did not. And I'm currently using an 87 frame. I'm thinking of converting over to the 88 frame so i can use the rear disc brakes

Yeah, we'll have to destroy HMX this next season before other people do and yeah the big inserts on sparky's are all the same size, but the size of the silencer they fit on changes. Mine is only 2 and a quarter inches and the sparky is like 3.5" or 4". I also take the sparky off when I go to the MX track, because it isn't needed.
