First Bike?

If you want to ride mx, ride a bike setup for mx, if you want to ride woods, ride a bike setup for woods, same concept for dez....
Sure a mx bike will do great on whooped out quad trails...... and my old woods bike will handle some light mx, but neither are ideal

There's no way I'm too big for an Xr200r because Youtube shows people my size and bigger riding them like mx bikes. And it doesn't matter, unlike you full grown people, buying a bike doesn't have to go through parents. Mother shot down the idea as I told my dad about it. He insists I should keep looking and do better around the house...It's all an fml but thanks for all the tips with a bike.

I actually have an xr200, its made for a beginner/female under 5'8 :thumb:

Keep nagging, bringing it up etc! never lose hope of the best sport/hobby!

Mother?

Waaaaiiiiittt a minute. South Jersey as in US or south Jersey as in the small island owned by France?

So this is my opinion take it for what its worth to you. I have never owned a 4 stroke bikes. I learned how to ride 2 stroke bikes. If I can learn how to do it anybody can. I think the 2 stroke bike is a fine platform to learn on. Now based off what info youve given I say go 250 2 stroke. It makes plenty of power for your height and weight and when your ready to go faster and do more it will give it to you. Just remember. That just because your riding a 250CC 2 stroke bike that really makes good power doesnt mean that you have to use all that power right away. Its all about throttle control. Same goes with the 450 4 stroke. It REALLY make LOTS of power. But just like the 2 stroke machine it can be very tame to learn how to ride if you ride it that way. Throttle control. Both a 2 stroke and 4 stroke bikes will hurt (kill) you equally if you dont use some control.

Now all you have to do is decide what type bike you want find the right price range and pull the trigger and buy it.

So you are saying, providing you have control a 450 MX bike would be ok to learn on ?

@140rider South jersey as in USA.

@James My friends Dad rides a 450 and hes 6'3' 250 and he says it has too much power for him.

Also, it looks like unless something significant comes up, I'll be looking into 2000-2004 cr125's. They seem to be the cheaper of the bikes out there but they still get a good review from most people.

The problem is no beginner has the control necessary to ride a 250 2t or 450 4t.

Errr very few. Better to learn on a smaller bike anyway, teaches skill.

 You'd better have very good throttle control, otherwise you're going to end up in the hospital a lot. :crash:

Fix't

my first ever bike was a 525 sx. i never really had issues with control. i got all whisky throttle a few times at first but got use to it quick. Im also a bigger guy and came from a BMX background so that might have made it easier for me.

Oh. You said mother and i thought of a British or French person talking:lol:

Also, I'd avoid those year CR's, shoot for a KX, YZ, or RM, if you go 125. If you can find a decent SX try for I think 02 and newer.

00-04 cr125's are cheap for a reason, some of the worst ever made :thumb:

I was warned to stay away from kawasaki and yz125's are in short stock on craigslist. Also what makes the 00-04 cr's so bad?

Who told you to stay away from kawi? Please do tell as they must have some great weed!

J/K I don't smoke that stuff, but still, there's nothing wrong with kawi. In fact besides their early gen racing 4t's they make great bikes. But maybe I'm a lil biased:smirk:

And well, To put it technically, their frames are early gen aluminum(alum. frames aren't that good, KTM says they can build steel frames lighter than an aluminum frame, which makes sense... and early gen are worse because they have bad ergo's and are even more rigid than today's aluminum), they have oversized crankcases meaning a very peaky, weak motor, AND if I remember right they have electronic powervalves, which just unnecessarily complicates the engine and adds weight. I can go on. But I digress.

Even for learning to ride in a field to have some fun ?

It's just, i would go for a 250, just they scream 13,000 revs, I don't like that. I prefer low rev sound. Mabe a KTM sx-f 350 would be a good compremise between 250 and 450 ?

:noidea: You seem more concerned about how it sounds then anything else.

Of course you can learn on a 450f, your learning curve will just be steeper.

BTW what's wrong with 13k RPMs? My bike's always begging to go up there. :P
