Ditching the cable tv, anyone else do it?

Opened my cable bill yesterday to see a $20 increase. Last couple of times that has happened, I called and said I would cancel before paying the increase and they backed down, not this time. They said they would knock off $10 of the increase. $80 a month, crap.
I would pay that much IF there was good stuff to watch, but other than the Speed channel and Fuel tv, most of the other programming sucks. I have been toying with the idea of cancelling for a while, the price increase was the final straw.
So I told Directv to cancel my subscription. Ordered a TV antenna (remember those?) off of Amazon, will be bolting it on the pole where the dish is located. Tech guru guy at work has been showing me all the programs and movies available for free on the web (there is lots), and is going to get me the cable needed to hook my computer up to the TV.
Feels weird, kinda like quitting cigarettes.
Anyone else kick the cable addiction?

I've sure thought about it. Unfortunately I have zero over the air available for me, so it's cable/sat or nothing. I have Dish because it's the least expensive. It's still too much though.

If there was a way to get live events (supercross, motocross, football, etc.) online then yeah I'd have dropped them awhile ago. Most networks allow you to watch their shows online the next day or so.

No cable here hate those old crusty :foul:, lazy :foul:. Netflix, OTA and downloading gets me by. Thankfully cables days are numbered.:moon:
Check out Windows Media Center, MythTV, LinuxMCE, SageTV, Boxee, XBMC for HTPC software. Not all have the safe features..so you might have to combine different programs...PC's make far better PVR then any shit box the cable tyrants with give you.

Boy, that Ultra Super Secrect Premium Membership sure must be expensive. Direct is cheaper than Dish, but not as good IMHO. Gotta have the TV though. You are stronger than me my friend. I couldn't do it.:prof:

Right after I made the switch from a "no commitment" cable provider to Direct, two of my neighbors said WHY??? They have all ditched PAID TV, use antennas, Netflix, Hulu, and the web for all of the programming they need.. After getting Direct I realized that Fuel & Speed seem to repeat EVERYTHING. However, the kids do enjoy NATGEO, Military, Animal Planet, Discovery CHannel, and the History Channel. About 18 months to go, what to do

We as in the whole Family (Mom and Dad :smirk: ) have not had program :moon: TV in over 12 years. I refused to pay for crap :foul: they sale on the waves. If I need to watch something that is on I go to my moms house and see it. Other than that its movie night at the Palmers.
