Goodbye Motocross -

Well, DBA, it turns out that I have to leave motocross. My doctor told my Mom that I shouldn't be riding anymore due to my amount of head trauma. I was still going to ride, thinking my Dad would still let me, but he broke the news to me Saturday that I couldn't ride either. I had my future planned around the amazing sport of motocross and that's been all I thought about for 2 years straight, so it'll be hard for me.

This is at least, until I turn 18. When I move out, I will most likely be buying a bike again and starting over. :ride:

And I need y'alls advice for 2 things:

1. How much do yall think I can get off my 08 CRF250r? Everything is stock besides the Pro-Action suspension. I will replace the sprockets, chain, and rear tire on the bike before I sell it. Can I get at least $3000? http://i630.photobucket.com/albums/uu26/v757b/CRF250r/DSC01001.jpg You can check the local Roanoke, VA listings on Craigslist if yall want.

2. Do yall have an idea of a sport I can do that'll still give me that rush, and keep me in shape? Here are my interests now; motocross, guns, hunting, fishing, mudding, farming, and explosions.

I reckon I will be buying a bunch of guns with that money. Along with maybe an old tractor.

I will still be on DBA every once in a while to keep up with the moto world. If any of yall are in my area, I'd love to hunt, fish, shoot, mud, etc with any of you guys. You're all alright in my book. :ride:

Sorry to hear this news V but, your parents are just looking out for your best interests. If I were you I'd be buying a trials (not trail) bike and get out there - great rush and great fun with mad skill set needed. Good luck to you :thumb: Keep us updated.

Trail riding for sure.

Anyway, thats a damn fucking shame bro. Look at all that land you have as well.

As for other activites, I would say MMA ex for the getting hit in the head part. As long as you dont spar, that should be a good work out for you. Do crossfit exercises. ( google "crossfit" if you dont know what that is ) Go to the gym and get your swoll on. :thumb:

God damn you are awesome.

Start trail riding :prof: Tell your parents its much slower as you rarely get out of second gear :thumb:
sucks.... you should get into riding trails for fun and not competitively if the parents will allow it.

Thanks y'all. I used to ride trails and I've got my backwoods trails on my land, but I never found a love for it. I might as well try it again though. I was thinking endurocross too, maybe.

Thanks! I don't think I could get into trials though. But for some reason, this gave me an idea of pit biking. That's a possibility too.

Thank ya. I kinda dipped my toes into MMA last year. It was fun for a while, but I got bored with that too. Just not really a rush, ya know?

God damn you are awesome.

Well, DBA, it turns out that I have to leave motocross.
:wow: I'm really really sorry to hear that, however I can understand the reasons behind it. Look at me, my priorities have changed a lot these past 3 months, but I can't see myself without a bike though.

:thumb: That happens a lot, heck I didn't start riding until after I was 18. There was just absolutely no way that my parents were going to let me ride. They still hate it, but have learned to keep the comments to a minimum. :smirk:

That's why I still want to ride, there's just nothing else that really interests me. The only other thing I could see myself doing is BMX or something similar. But I'm guessing they have a lot of injuries as well. My advice would be to see if they'll let you ride trails or do enduros. Can you still get hurt doing that? Of course, but so can you if you trip down some stairs.

:thumb: No need to leave us, heck you'll probably be back riding before you know it. Heck ask your doc how many months he's recommend you take off before you could start riding again if you wanted to. And then when that day comes ask your parents again. Remember because you JUST hurt yourself they're probably in the ":bleep: no" mode, as in ":bleep: no you're not riding ever again". So maybe by next spring or summer, when this isn't in the front of their minds anymore, they'll be more open to letting you ride again. :noidea:
You're all alright in my book. :ride:
 Why thank you :smirk:

Dang Riley, that really sucks. I feel for ya man. Like the other guys said, possibly trail riding? I mean you could still get hurt, but there is a chance of that with everything. I think that pit bike idea of yours wouldn't be bad, get some sumo tires..haha. Just run it around your little subdivision right there! :ride: I like you interests by the way: guns, hunting, fishing, mudding, farming, and explosions. :smirk: All of those are really fun, hardly any chance of hurting your head. Look out for debris with those explosions though. :P Anyway, hope you can keep up some kind of riding! Ever thought of mountain biking? I find that gives a bit of a rush.

could you imagine how much the Freestyle MX world would have missed out on if Travis Pastrana's parents told him no after the first couple injurys he took.

That truly sucks man and I am sorry to hear that. Look at it this way your parents must really care about you. I bet that the last thing in the world your dad wanted to tell you was you can't ride any more. No matter how bad you hate it..they are doing it because they care not because they want to. If they really didn't want you to ride you would have never rode in the first place.

 I can see myself start up riding again at 18. Mom wont like it, but oh well.

I hear ya. I wish that was a choice with me. I'll see what I can do, I'm just not sure I can get into trail riding or enduro. I like hitting jumps and flying through the air. I love the feeling.

Yup! I'm sure I'll be back soon enough. :ride:

I thought of mountain biking too, but I want some power in that chassis. :smirk: I'm still on the edge of starting pit bike riding, it still doesn't compare to motocross. But I guess I'm just being too picky now.

That would have definitely been something else. Unfortunately, who knows what Travis will be like in 20 years. Over 25 concussions!

That's very true. Thanks a lot, man!

I hope this is outdated????????

It's a bit outdated! Still the same situation though. I've seen two neurologists about riding again, and both have said I shouldn't. But I'm scheduling with a neuro-chick with a PhD (maybe she'll be hot...and smart ) and she will be the final decision. The wait is killing me, though I don't really expect to be riding again. I just wish I could get an answer quick so I can either sale the bike and get a tractor, or keep the bike and ride. I'm very impatient. I'm still allowed to ride around the house, which still aint recommended, but my Dad is cutting me some slack. All we got is trails, no jumps, so it aint much fun for me. Now, the reason all this is such a big deal is how it has mentally effected me. My brain functions haven't been the same. Concentration, memory, reaction time, and mood stability have all changed for the worse. They say the next one, I wont be so lucky. And that's why I'm going to the neuro-fellas about, a fix for all that, if there is any. It makes school so much harder, and I refuse to let that take advantage of all the opportunities I have. I'm starving to ride though, and I want a 2-stroke! If all this goes through, it'll be harder than hell to step away from motocross. But I will wish for the best!:ride:

that sucks, as far as going trails, you can get hurt just as bad, if not worse if you get aggressive. If you should decide to ride trails, remember, its not a race.
