Bought a yz 490 from a kid it had no title he said its an 1983 but he didn't even know it was a 4 speed I've looked at some pics of an 82 they look the same how do I tell what year it is I can read the vin # if that helps. All help is gratefully appreciated. Thanks guys

The 490's last # is a 7. The vin is only nine digits unless ya count the dash. I have title for my 85 yz 250 last digit is a 6
What color are the plastics? The frame?
Yep starts with 23xOn the engine is there a pre-fix like 23X?
