Bike Rebuild.

Okay I have had my bike about 2.5 months I have 640 miles on it and we are figuring I average 20mph. So we are guessing 32 hours. i know this doesn't count any idle time or anything but for simple figures I went with 32 hours. So we have been averaging 12.8 hours a month. If I stay at that rate I'm looking at needing to rebuild my bike every year and half. Figuring I get 250 hours on a top end rebuild? You guys think this is about right?

How often do you rebuild the bottom end?

I'm looking at everyones rebuild costs and it looks like around $650 for the top end.

Anyone ever seen anything that said what a bike costs to run per hour?

I'm just trying to figure if a guy should keep his bike and rebuild every year and half or keep buying bikes and moving them so you never rebuild.

What do you guys think?

I would strongly suggest that you get an hour meter. You can get them for $30-40 and they're very easy to hook up. Basically just mount the meter somewhere and wrap the wire lead a couple times around the spark plug wire.

That number varies so wildly that I doubt that anyone's ever tried to come up with one. If I ever get a new bike I'll be sure to keep track of everything. However maintenance (filters, fluids, lubes, chain/sprocket) cost should be pretty easy to figure out though.

:noidea: Depends on how comfortable your bank account is or if you're racing and always want the latest technology. I personally think it would cost considerably more buying a new bike every 1 1/2 years because they depreciate so fast. You'll probably loose more in depreciation then what it would cost to rebuild.

I just talked to a friend of mine , and he says that he is getting ready to do the bottom end on his bike. He has an '05 450X with 500 hours on it. He's starting to see flecks of copper in the oil and wants act now, before it grenades.
