New to the forum, back at it again

Hi all,
I came across this trying to research what bike to get. I'm going to get back into the world of moto/arena. I've been out of the game for about 4 years. And with everything, the game has changed.

While I don't have a bike at the moment, I want to read up, and get up to date with the world it is today.

A little background - I'm from Illinois, use to ride/race. Started on a 1999 rm125 back on 2003 and before I sold everything I was on a 2004 kx250f. Raced for a little team on a 03 yz250f which was pretty cool.

My plan is to get a bike again, find a place to ride (we sold my old riding property) so I'll be on public tracks around the area. Depending on when I get the bike my goal is to get back to racing next season. I only have 1 weekend off a month. So finding time to race will be tough. But 1 race is better than 0.

I look forward to reading what you guys have to put out there.

Whats your budget? Looking for new?
They're all great bikes but you will do best to get what simply fits and feels best to you.

More than likely going to be new. Depends on when I end up buying. If it's not until the end of the season I might go used because you can get great deals.

Probably going to be a green bike. But a dealer near by has '16 rmz250's on sale for just under 6k. So that's tempting.

Reading on the forum makes me want to just go get one already. But with all the work on the house I need to do, I know I won't get hardly any seat time this summer.

Welcome to DBA Mason, just from what you stated, I'd take a good took at those Zooks, if you were able to save close to 2 grand, that's a nice pile of cash to use for a racing fund, have your suspension done, or whatever you feel would make it a good fit for you. But you can't go wrong with the kawi's either, they have been building bikes in both classes that are as good or better than than the rest of the field.

On paper, they are nearly identical from what both manufactures list. The savings would be great on a brand new bike. It's crazy on the kawi that the difference between a 16 and a 17 is only $100.
I've never bought a new bike before. They have always been second hand. But do dealers have model year end sales. Like car dealerships do? Or not because usually the changes are relatively small year to year?

Really really big dealers will sometimes liquidate stock but for the most part the price is the price. Under 6k I would jump on that deal.

I get off midnights tomorrow morning, so I may ride up to the bigger dealer near Joliet (they are the one that have the rmz sale).

I found a local 11 kx250f. But after seeing a thread sub posted on here. Sounds like they had some issues with the lower end. And that's a bit iffy.
The guy says it has low hours but I asked him in the initial email. And then again in the text message and didn't get an answer.

Little tiny update on my thread,

I may or may not be the owner of a 2016 rmz250. For 5999 plus taxs. I could not let 1600 off of msrp pass me by. I looked hard at the kawi, and really they felt the same. I know the 16 zook placed last in the shootouts powerwise. But when I do get back to racing. That just means I'll have to be smoother as someone once told me.

I tried posting a picture but the file size is too big. But so far it's just your standard bike. I ordered a new throttle tube. And I put grips on it.
