RM250 exhaust question

So The RM 250 I got has an FMF fatty on it but its beat to hell and has been for some resaon cut and welded back together in 2 spots. The welds are shit and it leaks big time (when I start the bike it leaks so bad I can see the exhaust rising from under the radiator) and from what little I know about how 2 stokes run a leaking exhaust can cause it to run poorly. But because this is my first bike I am sure I will crash/drop the bike while learning I dont want to spend $300 to $400 and an exhaust I may damage while learning. So is there an exhaust system I can buy that will replace to whole system front to back for around $200 or am I suck spending $300 to $400.

If you guys want I can post pics of where its leaking

You can probably take it to a local welder and have it rewelded for about 20-30 bucks.
Post some pics and then have a look around on eBay.

base on the pics I have seen of the FMF fatty pipe online it does not even look like its the right shape anymore. I could get the holes welded but that would not fix it being the wrong shape.

Contrary to popular opinion looks don't make the bike go faster. Welding it is the lowest cost. However, there are several compatible ones on ebay that will look better for less than the $200+ for a new one.

Just about any muffler shop will do it.

Looks like 1996-2000 are compatible, but don't take that as gospel without some other verification.

There are several on ebay starting a little over $50 including shipping.

how can you tell its for a 125?

LOL I didn't even realize that, Brian. The 250 pipes curve out from the left side of the bike.
