What bike should I get!!!!!!!!!

Hi im new to riding a dirtbike, Ive been round bikes alot of my life but never was on one because they were to big and fast, parents siad I can get on but dont know which one to get Im 5"9 and 185lb what bike should I get?????????

:thinking:Let me think. Oh I know get on creigslist and find a nice 500cc two stroke. KX or CR, or you can Call Service Powersports 1-219-932-3588 and buy a new KX or CR500af. You can also buy any nice 250cc two stroke. Anything but a four stroke would be a good choice. :smirk:

How much money do you want to spend on keeping it alive? You can not trust anyone who is trying to sell you a used four stroke.:panic: Sure it runs good now. Then a two or three rides later it blows. Do you want to buy a four stroke for say 3000 just to have it blow. Then have to spend another 1500 to 2000 to get it to run again. Those who buy four strokes buy them new. Beat the hell out of it for a season or two then Sell them. Cuz they know how much it's going to cost to make them last another season.

I bought a 3 year old kx250f with everything still stock and put on another 40+ hours my self, still on the stock piston....

Stop being so biased.

What skill level do you ride at?
Those hours were on the faster side of C.

Also why would you run a 4 stroke until it blows? It's called preventive maintenance.

While you're at it, go get a quote on a piston/ring kit for a 2013 KX250F and let us know many more $1,000 it is compared to a 2 stroke. And before you bring it up, feel free to include the price of new valves (even though they'll last you 100+ hours). Plus since it's usually best to replace the cam chain at the same time as the piston, include that as well. :thumb:

I am biase when it comes to four strokes. Cuz I love the sport of motocross and want to keap it alive for all of us. Not just for the factories. Its no secret that the four stroke has raised the cost of motocross to the point in which the Priveteer is forced to walk away. For those just getting into the sport do not need to be scared away cuz they find out how much it cost to be able to keep their bike alive.

Where do you get 100+ hours on a four stroke set-up? Never will. Can a person just starting out learn how to change his or her own piston and rings with everyday tools Yes they can. They can not with a four stroke. I will just agree to disagree here ok. The only way you can do a top end job cheaper on a four stroke is by cutting corners. Thats why you should never trust a used four stroke.

I have a few riding buddies that have 100+ hours (on valves) verified with hour meters. If you do regular oil changes and keep your air filter clean there's no reason you should not be able to go 100 hours. Pistons are usually ~50hrs unless you're at least a top B guy, then it's closer to 30.

Also the first engine (bike or car) I ever looked inside of was my 05 kx250f, heck I didn't even know what an overhead cam was. I replaced the piston and rings by myself. So if I could do it, I know for a fact others can to. :thumb:
conorb12345 asked and I gave him my opinion. I do not wish to argue with anyone ok.
This is a forum; he posted a question, you answered, I disagreed with your answer. Nothing personal against you.

If your looking for an unbiased opinion on which one to get i might actually have some good insight here. I own both a Wr450f (4 stroke) and a kx125 (2 stroke). I do all my own work and have had to do plenty on both. Here is what i've found;

IN GENERAL FOR MX BIKES
2 strokes use cheaper parts and are alot easier to work on, however, you will ALWAYS be working on it

4 strokes need work less often (useally), but when the motor does need work its gonna cost you some $$$

In the long run your realistically going to spend the same on both, but if your not terrible at saving money and not afraid to read though your manual a 4 stroke will need less work time wise. However if you don't mind wrenching every couple rides and don't like the thought of dumping serious money into the bike all at one time a 2 stroke is a good option.

Now with that being said, none of this should matter because you should just get the one you feel most comfortable on and just enjoy it :thumb:

James, Iwas on another thread here about the SH CR125af. I tried to post a article from Dirt Rider mag. I was unable to. I don't know how. Its not about this thread. Could you please tell me how. Send me a message please so I can learn how. Thanks. and no hard feelings ok
