The ever amazing front tube trick

Many people probably know this but we were out on a long ride the other day when i got a rear flat. One of my vetran riding buddies pulled out a Front tube out of his pack. This worked great to get us off the mountain and back to the truck. So for those who dont know, like i didn't, if your going to haul a tube in your pack with you make it the front :thumb:

Once I had a rear flat out on the trail on the first day of a five day riding vacation. Installed a front tube and it lasted for the whole trip.

How good are those little dinky hand op'd pumps? I have one (no idea where it came from)...I'm going to either carry a tube with irons and a pump, wrenches, water, extra helmet for the hottie I might pick up......first aid, food, a back board, crutches, dang....and that's just on my front fender...

As for carrying extra rims.......

Since the majority of my riding is through camp and around the trailers. I guess I really don't need to worry about it. :P

Lets say they are a good workout. I have a small bicycle pumt that I picked up at Walmart for a few $$$. It works, but to seat a rear tire with 50psi it takes like 600 or more pumps. The fronts are not nearly as insane. Makes CO2 a lot more attractive.

I'm going to buy one of the Second Wind pumps that doubles as a CO2 as well. That way you can use the CO2 and fall back to the pump if needed.

How big is it?? remember the list of stuff I have to carry NOW...:smirk:

those little pumps are a pian... good for a road bike, no good for anything bigger than a MTB tire it would take too long, i would say a CO2 inflater and 3-5 cartridges should do it and it takes up about the same amount of space

That's good when you only get one flat. I went on a ride a few years back where one guy got three flats in one day. I think there was one more flat with someone else. We started off with CO2 and ended with my pump. That's why I want that second wind unit that is both a pump and a CO2 inflater. Best of both worlds. Now on that day the giant zip ties would have been an option to get back to the road, but I've been on many a ride where an inflated tire is required to get back.

I didn't think about the possibility of more than 1 flat...I'd like one of those 2nd winds also. I'm still going to get the giant zip ties...:thumb:

The second wind is what I carry, I love it. The pump actually works really well I only use the CO2 to seat the bead, and its really small about 4 inches long.
