Other Sparks and then stops

I have a xr80 and it loses spark and i have to disconnect all of the wires going to the coil and stator and after i reconnect them it will spark once and then it stops again...anyone know how to fix this or what the problem is???

sorry if this is the wrong forum..i'm not really sure where to post it

First have you put in a NEW plug? Then I would check the kill button and wires, maybe disconnect it temporarily. Then trace wires down the frame to under the tank and to the side case. Look for burned or pinched wires. Then check the coil area and especially the ground wire there. After that it could be a bad spark plug wire in the plug cap. They usually unscrew from the spark plug wire. If the cap is cracked it may be jumping to ground. Or the wire may be bad and a usual fix can be to cut off the last 1/4" or so and screw the plug cap back on. Rarely it will be the coil and more often it is the stator inside the left side engine case that could go bad as well. ALWAYS do the cheap and easy things first.
