Carb issue

Got a small issue, with the petcock turned on I have has leaking out the over flow tube, I'm gonna assume the float is adjustable? It's a 02 yz125

It is, you have to remove float bowl to do it, and it's a matter of bending the float up or down to the desired height.

Yamaha suggests using a tool which consists of a float bowl plug with a clear tube attached so that you can see the actual level. If all the things yamaha suggests it is the most unhandy and messy way to do something.

If you have their desired measurement it's easy to turn your plug into a gauge. Easier yet to just set the float to where both sides are perfectly even. Then bend the tab that contacts the float needle so that the mold lines on the float are perfectly parallel with the carb body/bowl mating surfaces just as the tab firmly meets the extended tip of the float needle. If the needle/seat is in good shape that should put you within spec.

The level changes constantly, so for a sharp running engine you will be setting it a lot.

Ok, take the plug out and tell me what it looks like. You and i may have a different idea of what awsome is. Take or leave the advice.

ALWAYS do the easy things first...hit the bowl of the carb with a hammer handle or screw driver handle. This will often knock loose a stuck float. If it happens again then take it apart. I would never take a carb apart cuz the float stuck just one time.

Gonna work on her tommrow and see what's going on

Work on it. Heck sounds like you can just smack it. Those bikes you used to see winning races with carbureted engines had the float set before the event. So since yours may not have had it set since the factory did it, it could be time. You haven't had this one long, correct?

I just recently picked it up on a trade, so really there is no way to tell if it's been set before..it's a 2002 so I'm shure it's way past due

While you are in there inventory your jets and see how close to stock they are. The reason I mention that is that as the rig gets run and the level rises the engine runs richer until the unknowing owner leans it out by jetting it down. If you set it back to "factory" it may be really lean. So if you find a main jet more than 2 sizes smaller etc you may want to jet back up after setting the float. Then do some plug readings. I am betting you will be pleased with the result.

I will give it a shot boss man!! I took it for a spin today and did some full throttle runs out of some corners and she bogged as soon a got on it, the bike has a fmf fatty pipe on it

If the bog seemed to get worse as the bike got warmer and it if it seemed smokey you will definitely be happier when you are done. It's a good motor and the 02 cylinder a pretty good one.
