94 Rm125 help

I just bought a 1994 RM125 2 stroke, it’s my first bike, I’m having an issue, every time I try and put her in gear she stalls, clutch cable looks stretched and old, so I ordered another one. When I get enough tension on it to fully engage the clutch it still stalls. What else should I look for, clutch basket? New friction plates? I’m not sure. I’m new to bikes but have years of experience with cars. Any ideas?

Does it lurch forward when it dies? Give it a little rev when you shift it into gear.
Adjusting the clutch is most likely your best bet, so that it bites when the clutch is pulled further in.

It does lurch a bit, I tried to find a video on how to adjust the clutch, but it was no help lol. I did rev before shifting and it dies right away

Should be an adjuster at the perch, but not always. You want the cable tighter.
If that doesn't help, the clutch basket may be notched

Can you tighten the cable to the point where it won't engage the clutch anymore? Like you let it out and no motion forward at all?
Then loosen the cable slowly from there until usable.
Could still be a notched basket.

Update, got the new cable on and it works better however it still dies when I’m in first and have the clutch in like coming to a stop. Any ideas?
My experience on my 96 was warped clutch plates and a worn out basket. I replaced my clutch plates and basket and once it was broke it, it has been great! No more stalling or lurching when I click into gear
