250 2001 KX250 need help with part?

Been working on my bike and I’m pretty sure this part goes here on the carb but I don’t see where to plug it in to. Is it needed?

Thats possibly a throttle position sensor, and looks as if it plug into the wiring harness to assist the CDI with timing in some way.
I am not sure if it's totally necesary, but most likely helps optimize either idle or wide open throttle.

Maybe it’s not necessary because I can’t find a connector for it

I would put the cover back on, the O-ring makes me think it could cause an air leak at the slide. Also, probably not a big deal at all.
The airboot being cracked would be cause for an inspection, airleaks downstream of the carb are a real pain.
