2000 JR50 top end rebuild kit quality

Hi All-

I'm new to the forum and recently bought a 2000 Suzuki JR50Y for my 4 y/o son. The bike is complete and in good condition, but not running. It has been sitting in this condition for a couple years. The seller told me it needed a "new top end". The seller is an experienced dirt rider and had the bike for his kids to ride, so I am inclined to believe his assessment. I was hoping I could get opinions on the quality of the $89 JR50 top end rebuild kits on ebay? I have the bike torn down and will be going through everything for cleaning, lube, replacement or restore. The top end rebuild kits seem to be a great value for a new head, cylinder, piston, pin, clip, gaskets, bolts and plug. That said, if the stuff is crap, I could be back into it within a few weeks. Anyone's experience with these kits would be appreciated. Thanks

welcome, and I have not looked into anything for a similar 50 other than the yzingers. a friend had a household of those that started with his kids and now working through grandkids and great grand kids. he has used various no name pistons in the past with excellent results. those engines are hard to hurt.

Thanks Ossagp. The one kit that pops up the most often is from Niche Industries. I still have to confirm the diagnosis. If the diagnosis is confirmed, I'll probably order a complete top end kit verses bore, hone or mess with the existing cylinder when I replace the piston and rings.
