yz 125 problem

if the needle is in it's anchor i think i would make sure you removed the needle jet/holder and cleaned it's passage out well. your description isnt anything that i have ever come across other than a couple of times like that. even then it was more like someone just shut the engine off when the throttle got so far open

i had same problem on my older yz125..put new stator windings, new coil and someone handbuilt a sweet looking pipe for it but it was not any good, so i put a dg pipe on it but then the choke kept coming on and that was fixed with a new carby...still not sure tho i am getting pretty close

I agree...it doesn't sound electrical to me, my bets on a carb problem.

the carbs spot on though needle all fine opens and closes properly I stripped it down today to have abdouble check ifni put the piston in the right way and I did the head gasket/oring is stretched now so need a new one even though its only been used for around 5 mins! once thats on though going to whip the powervalve cover off and make sure thays all working properly! also theres not a fat blue spark there you struggle to see it you can hear it sparking though and its a yellow sort of color and thats a new plug!

I think you need to ground it to something better if you want it work. That said, it did produce one spark at the beginning which is dead on to what any of mine do. Did you test the stator yet?

yeah you may be right there will test all of the grounds and no not yet as cant find my multimeter

i think i have bought about a dozen multi meters in the last 20 years because I couldnt find one i was already looking for. right now i have five i could find in a few minutes, spread over 3 vehicles and 2 shops.

You have oil mixture ratio mixed up with what your fuel air mixture is.

You might be a little bit further along if you had read or tried a little more to accurately understand and describe the symptoms. Maybe you just haven't been around or seen and heard many engines run properly. I agree that your engine is running rich. Ie your carburetor needs WORK. Way too much fuel is getting to that cylinder from the looks. START with setting the float. I wouldn't do anything until you try that. Did you check the jet sizes? If not check them and write down the numbers and check them against the stock sizes.

I still think you need to find a dealership that can help you identify the exact engine you have , as that isnt the one that came in a 2005 here in the states. From what I am seeing yours is the earlier style.

Anyway, start the rest of the trip by finding out where the float should be set. anything else is going to be a waste of time if you want it running it's best.
