Boots Gaerne SG10

In the past, I have always worn cheap 100-200 dollar boots that I've had to replace after about a year and half of use, after I destroyed the sole of my old boots a 2nd time, I followed the advice of a good friend and invested in 400 (from a dealer) Gaerne SG-10's.

Long story short, I destroyed my old boots the friday before a race, I called High Velocity Cycles in Albuqueruqe knowing he'd be at the race and asked if he could deliver them to me there. Worried about running brand new, not broken in boots in a race just about killed the excitement of having a pair of boots that I'd wanted a long time but couldn't afford. Well, much to my delight, straight out of the box they were more flexible and far more comfortable than the cheap boots I've always worn in the past. Although I haven't looked at the specs, the sole and area surronding the ankles feels like its made out of some sort of gel or memory foam as it molds perfectly to the shape of your foot/ankle  no pinching, no rubbing, very snug and comfortable fit, right out of the box. The latch system is very user friendly, had no issue putting them on or taking them off with and without knee pads. While riding, they remain very comfortable while offering very good feel of the bike. The weekend I got them I ran the desert pre-ride (50 miles) plus a 15 minute mx race, plus the actual desert race (50 miles in 89* heat) all the while my feet remained cool and comfortable. And as they should, they still look brand new other than the black streaks that all white boots accumulate. Although its too early for me to give my own story of durability, talking to guys around the pits, I found someone thats been wearing the same set of SG-10's for 5 years now, at the rate that I was going through the cheaper boots, these should be cheaper in the long run by that model.

I haven't worn the sidi's or the tech 10's, but these boots are fantastic and will be my prefrence from now on.

:needpics:

But seriously, my F3s were perfect right out of the box too. Boots and helmets are something you shouldn't go cheap on :thumb: gaerne makes great stuff!

I know it is to late now but I should tell you that the metal shank in the bottom of the Gaerne boots is the same size in every boot. Meaning the size 8 boot has the same metal shank in the bottom as the size 11. What does this mean? It means that people with big feet the boot is useless. I have a buddy with a size 11 and he Had SG-12's. He hit a rock in a desert race and smashed his foot between the rock and the frame of his motorcycle. He ended up loosing his toe because it was so badly smashed. He asked our Gaerne rep WTF and the rep told him about the shank in the boot. Just letting you know.

So, you as a dealor,, what boot do you recommend? and any specials you running this week

If you wear a 9 or smaller I would suggest the SG 10 or The SG 12 since the shank is full length. Also the Answer boots are really good for an inexpensive boot. I personally have tech 8's from 2002, and am in the market for a new set. I was talking to my rep about the Gaerne and thats when he told me about the shank. I wear a 9 so I am all good.

I like the alpinestars as well because I know they last, but they are also the only boots I have ever owned.

I am in love with my F3s but if I was a rich guy, I'd get the instinct :hail:

After watching Reeds crash there is no way I would buy the insticnts, or the Sidi's or anything with an exposed outside pivot. I dont care what anybody says that boot did not get hung up under the shifter. The foot peg was caught up in the exposed hinge system which destroyed his knee. In the footage you can clearly see his toe is up and not under the shifter.

I have Tech 8's and the sole on my kick start side is gone (too much motor :smirk:) I don't care for the replaceable center sole piece that keeps coming out and hanging on my foot peg, but i have been thinking on just sending them in and getting the soles redone :noidea: Alpinestar offers that service for about 100 bucks.

feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I was told the main difference between the 10 and 12 is a narrower toe box in the 12 :noidea:

I will let you in on a secret. If you send the boots to Alpinestar you can tell them you have a race and you need a pair of boots for a race that weekend. If they have your size you can ask for new tech 10 to try. They charge your card to make sure they get them back but you can run them until your boots are fixed. They don't advertise that but they will do it for you.

here are mine, 2 years of riding on them and they still look brand new!garnes.jpg
just kiding about the "2 year old part" i actually have not warn them yet

 thanks but as little as I can get out, they can fix them 10 times and I still would be ok. I will most likely do it over winter when there are no worries about going riding. :thumb:

First issue I've run into with them is they offer too much up and down movement
I landed coming through a sandwhoops section a bit off and it damn near folded my ankle into a 90
I'm almost wondering if the alpinestars offer better overall protection...

I'm still in the market for a boot. I'm not happy with the wear on my A-stars but they do have 2 race seasons on them, but in all honesty they were already piled at the ankle by mid summer of the 1st year.
