theres a few companies that are doing it... probably have to set up a stand at the track or something though.
Here's what you do, tag them as your property, rent them out at the tracks with a mount that can be easily attached and detached, then let the riders run them all day for 30$. Take the footage off the SD card, load it to your laptop then burn them a CD with all their footage on it for the day. Hell you might be able to get GoPro on board with the "advertising". I think this would work well, if you follow this idea. We have a photographer shoot for us, then burn us a 15$ CD of all the days pics and he makes some cash!

I think its a good idea. but for anywhere near 100 bucks for 14 days it should be a really expensive helmet cam so they dont decide "i might as well just buy one" i think 20 bucks a day is a good rate though, and i like yamadog's idea too.

There are companies that already rent GoPros so it's possible, your prices are a tad high though.

Couple things though:
  • You'll need a rental lease agreement
  • How will you be taking payments
  • You'll also need to place a hold on their credit card for a deposit
  • Figure out a process for when the cameras get damaged and/or stolen
  • And a number of other things
BTW I'd probably go with a GoPro as the brand will help you, they basically sell themselves.

I think it is a good Idea but you are going to need more than one. Also I believe go pro will help with the business. But they are extremely hard to deal with. If they know you are using their name to promote your business they will not take kindly to that. Also where are you going to get them? certainly you don't want to pay full retail for something you are going to loan out. James is on the right track about all the legal stuff. I think there is a market but it isnt going to be as easy as you are making it sound.

Thanks for the ideas peeps... i really like the drift compared to the GoPro but i see what you guys are saying about the company backing it, they'd probably be on board to help out. I'll have to check into it more

Well now that I see this I'm more open to it. I wasn't thinking tracks. But I still wouldn't mess with it. EFF DAT who buys the picture after their ride on a roller coaster? NOBODY.

I agree that $20/day is good. Now 14 days @ $20/day is $280, so doing 14 days for $100 isn't that bad.

Don't think that you would be able to do a deposit on it, but check out the square.

The rental route may very well lead to a sale so don't neglect that side of the business.

My buddy just said he'd give me $20/day if i got one...lol. I've seen that Square on tv looks like a good idea specially for this! Maybe i can get my buddy that just opened up shop to become a GoPro dealer/renter and go partners

From my experience of currently working in a tool rental place.................. Your going to need a really solid agreement contract, like have a lawyer make it up for you. Next, forget the online idea, its hard enough to get people to return them when its in person and they live down the road. Next, you will need multiple camera's. Probably 10 if thats the only thing your renting. If your only charging 20$ a day and you have to pay for the camera, gas to get to the track, and a whole day of your time your not gonna make much money. Plus you will always have broken ones. And say its a muddy slippery day and there is a pile up. 3 of your camera's break at the same time. Now you have to exchange them for 3 other camera's so you now have 3 broken 300$ go pros and 3 out, so you have 4 left and you've made a total of 60$.

Bottom line, i think to make any money you will need to go at it at a full business approach and get 10+ cameras and have on-site video editing and a way to put it onto disc/digital media, because that is where you would make the money, not the cameras themselves.

Sorry for the novel, just telling you from a rental guy :thumb:
