I race moto, so it's different for me, but as far as protection goes I sport one of the roost deflectors. I don't like the feel of a chest protector so i try and keep it light. Won't save ribs but It'll take some mean debris
I also don't like the feel of traditional chest protectors, have you ever tried a core saver type of chest protector? It's pretty much your roost guard with better padding.
I have not! I pull mine tight around me and wear some underarmor underneath it. I used to not ride with one, once I got into competition I was pushed into wearing one in which I personally modded for extra comfort for outdoors.
when we rode at CC I got behind clay going down a straight on the MX track and took a few rocks to the chest protector jax let me borrow. I'm sure glad he let me borrow it
i have been wearing those plastic roost protecter (made by Fox) for 2 years now. its just one of those hard shell type, not like the one that yamadog posted. this summer i hit a tree pretty hard and lacerated spleen. i think that it helped provent further injury, even if it wasnt made to for that.
i have a thor sentinal. Gives you the protection of a chest protector but had a minimal feel to me so i went with it. First time i ever wore one was the first time i went to a track. Came down off a big table sideways and high-sided landed straight on my chest/face. i know i would have lost ribs without that protector. Did 300$ worth to the bike but all the guard suffered was a small rip in the elastic. I hit so hard that you could see where the breather vents in the protector were because there was scraps in my chest for each one. After that whole experience i never go to the track without it
