Need help finding new bike!

Alright, so price range dropped a bit so if you're willing to take a look at these bikes that I found over the last hour or so that would be appreciated! Just take a quick peek at these and let me know your input on what you think is the best deal. I may be able to bargain some prices down a bit. All are used bikes.

I would only take either of the KX's if you have a really good dealer close by. The yz is as stated over priced. it is 1500-2000 in reality. Leaves the KTM as the only one I would bother looking at if it was me and i would take 33-34 with me and not go over that. It can be made offroadable to my knowledge way easier than the two KX's.

something you might cosider doing is to offer the ktm dealer 1500 for his 2001 kdx if he puts on new rubber, i bet it will n eed a chain and sprockets in 10 hours too. maybe the only deal i see there.

I saw that. Not a bad deAl. I have one of the Honda variety. Yamaha just quit sending that engine. It isn't a bad one, not at all. It is just when a major builder like yamaha dumps the five valve engine for a 4 valve everyone wants to dump them. Seems high. 23-25. You would come closer to getting your money back in. 6 months to a year with the kdx. If you want a 250f. Again look to the wr. You can likely get a better maintained one for less and hold more of your money. Buying an unknown racer is never palatable to me unless I can figure in rebuilding both ends and come out on the money. Honestly, I stay away from dealers altogether.

Amazing information like always from you man. So, you consider staying away from dealers? I figured Craigslist private sellers would be more sketchy in the fact that I am not to sure what to look for when buying a used bike and the used bike from the dealership has gone through their service department.

I would be more inclined to take your mechanic friend with you. Anyone you don't know is going to be suspect. In other words you are right about cl sellers. But line a lot if other things, you can. "Navigate" and come out ahead. Patience is the key. You have title concerns more tha. Some places. Dealers can be attractive from that point. When buying a street bike up here I tend to do the "meet me at the DMV ". Thing.

of all the 250fs the yammi motor was the most durable. 2500 is a good targeted price for that one.
I would certainly try to find a good deal on craigalist, but I'm sure that right now you are just anxious and would trust a dealer more. No dealer gives a warranty on any MX bike, even new and they certainly wont give one for a used bike.

I didn't do a valve job on my '07 WR450 until June, 2013. And the only reason I did anything was cause I wanted to put in the YZ cams. The valves had never even been looked at prior to this. And they were still in speck. I replaced them all anyway.

Been very happy with the reliability of the Yammi motor:thumb:

At one time it seemed like the only difference in the wr and the mx bike was cam timing and owners were as I recall were retarding the exhaust cam. I never did the change since I didnt own a wr, but loaned my degree wheel and dial sets out so the cams could be degree'd in further. What year(s) did Yamaha use different profiles for the wr over the mx version?

In just retarding the cam timing, the WR would lose the e-start capability as the decomp pin would not be the proper length. Going to the YZ timed Hotcams eliminated this issue as they had the correct length pin. I believe one would need to grind of 1mm in length. I have seen threads about people doing this so that would allow the stock cam/e-start/new YZ timing to work correctly.

When I got my cams from Hotcams they had put in the incorrect length decomp pin. The bike would struggle to turn over the e-start as there was too much compression. We had to take out the cam and send it back to them. I said that this extra labor was costing me $100 due there incompentancy. They were, "it's a race part, we can't warranty anything". I said, "no, it's a incompentancy issue on your part as someone put in the incorrect length decomp pin. That is not part of the manufacturing tolerances of the cam itself":foul:. They also own Pivot Works so they comped me a front and back set of wheel bearings and a complete fork rebuild kit:thumb:. Was happy with there customer service......once they agreed to my side of things:smirk:

Thanks for clarifying. I know of a really clean 2005 with very low time that has had the wr trans put in it, I have thought about picking it up since the seller (lol an actual adult) is willing to take a small amount. Since my knee surgery, I really need something with the e-button. So I have my eye out for a wr (again) or a 450 crfx.

Too bad you can't come down here and pick up my WR. It's CA plated as well. $4K:thumb:
