DRZ 2003 DRZ 125L

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum. Hope somebody can help. I just purchased a 2003 DRZ125L for my son. He has had it a week or so and we recently noticed that the crankcase is getting very hot to the touch after only 10 to 15 minutes of riding time causing the bike to lose power. I have cleaned the air filer and changed the oil and filter but this did not solved the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the overheating in the crankcase? Is it a simple fix or just an indication of a much bigger problem in the bottom end? Any thoughts please let me know.

Thanks
Larry

WELCOME!!!

First thing, have you checked/changed the oil?
There is no water system in this model, so I imagine if it has oil in it, the temperature is normal and the carburetor/intake is to blame for the power loss.

I would start with an oil change, then possibly move on to carburetor cleaning, rejetting. -BIG DAN:thumb:

Welcome Larry!
Like Srad said, change the oil and look for metal shavings on the drain plug tip. That should be
Magnetic. Then look for it in the pan to satisfy curiosity.
Keep us posted. Also check to make sure that the choke circuit works properly and as always clean that carb. :thumb:

These bikes from the factory are very lean. You can do a search for DRZ or KLX 125 bikes (Same bike different colors) ...All over the internet owners of these bikes installing richer jets in the carbs.
