Toyota Tacoma "PreRunner"

My 2 cents on this as I've owned a few 4X4 Tacoma's, my current one is a 2009 TRD Sport 4X4. Unless you plan on towing something, live where it snows, or REALLY are into 4X4ing in your truck, buy the 4X2. The insurance is much cheaper, much less maintenance and with the Prerunner/TRD suspension you really don't need 4X4. I only use the 4X4 in the snow when I lived in Reno.

Thanks!

I spoke with Palmer today, he had some great advise as well. It's looking like a 4x2 is what it's gonna be!

I will use my last post for this and say goodbye!!!

Tacoma/Toyota pick ups I have owned.
1976 230,000 miles and was running when the punkfuck kid I sold it to had it impounded and called me to help get it out. (NOPE, get it out yourself!)
1985 175,000 miles 4X4 hit head on at 60 MPH, totaled, walked away (other person came across the double yellow at same speed) think about, what was the speed of impact? Over 100? IDK, but I walked away and so did my nephew passenger. Other driver, fat girl reaching behind to grab another slice of Pizza (no lie) broke her wrist, smashed her face against the window and creamed her sable. My truck, hit so hard it shoved the front axle D/S into my foot well, broke the transfer case and locked it into gear. this truck is the reason I still buy Tacoma's.
1991 218,000 miles new head at 189,000 because the T chain stretched, bottom end was 100% beautiful still (change oil at 3,000 not 5,000 guys and gals). This truck was given to my oldest daughter who T-boned a WET BACK that made a U turn in front of her at 2AM easter morning on a 4 lane highway, got out of his truck bleeding, pulled his wife out of the passenger seat and his two kids and snuck away into the night before the cops and witnesses could grab them. (NOW YOU KNOW WHY I SAID WET "FUCKING" BACK!!!) No insurance, vehicle registered to a nobody they could find, and daughter did a year of physical therapy. Did I mention the piece of shit WET FUCKING BACKS? Only had liability, uninsured, underinsured on this and had to fight tooth and nail just to get 3,500.00 out of my insurance company. Hey, she walked away but she was very sore.
My trucks, since:
2006 65,000 traded it in for
2011 30,000 still driving
2008 for wife traded it for a scion XD/TRD My commuter. AKA "VONZIPPER"
Wife now has a 2013 Subaru Outback "PZEV" we can go to Prescott and back on 1 1/4 tanks of gas, that car is comfy and gets dynamite gas milage.
So:
Picked up a 4 cyl 2000 Pre-runner for my eldest son who totaled it in 7 weeks, picked up a 6 cyl 2003 Pre-runner to replace and he stopped making payments so I gave him a Honda Station Wagon strait across for what he had paid in and took the truck back. He wrecked the Honda in 3 days and I made him drive like that it for 2 years before I just bought him a 4 cyl 2000 single cab standard Tacoma with 145,000 for 4,800, needed shocks, KYB for 174.00.
Just picked up a 4 cyl 1999 single cab standard Tacoma with 120,500 for my youngest, 5,000, needs shocks and ready to be picked up at Pep Boys in the morning KYB 153,00 (discount promo).
Original question answer:
YES, they are all 2WD but not all have a Diff lock! They come in single, extra and quad cab, 4 and 6 cyl, with power options and without, lots of variations.
1996-2004 6 cyl motors are excellent if taken care of. 300,000 + easy, timing belt at every 100,000 and water pump if showing any signs of "cauliflower" around the weep hole, and I mean "any"!!!
1989-1991 6 cyl had block problems.
1992-1995 6 cyl you will not find a motor under 200,000 and you might as well skip up to the 1999-2004 to get less milage vehicle.
All 4 cyl from the first EFI 22RE in 1989 up, you can get 500,000 out of that motor easy if properly maintained, however, you will be hard pressed to find one older, used, and not abused. Like the diamond in the rough or a body beyond repairs.

So Pat, I hope this helps you out as it is now written on the pages for your review. If you find something nice, give me a shout, I'll give you a walk through as you look it over no problem.
So here is the fleet:
1969 VW Westfelia Camper 70% restored
1996 LC FZJ80 lifted 4" OME with all the bells and whistles (Jeep recovery vehicle)
1999 Taco for son #2
2003 Pre-runner for daughter #4
2000 for son #1
2009 Scion for dads VONZIPPER
2011 Taco/quad/LB/TRD Sport/4X4 dads moto wagon
2013 Outback 1 for mom, 1 for daughter #1
2013 Corolla daughter #2
1991 Camry wagon for baby momma (daughter #3)

I don't think Toyotas are very good cars

Last post. WTF is up with that!

You know cars and trucks last longer when you don't smash them. I must lead a charmed life compared to that trail of smashed vehicles you described. Then again you were not driving in most of those cases.

Last post? I thought that you were going to 4,000?

BTW well detailed post. :thumb:

Well I guess your not camera shy. What did you do, delete some of my ranting posts so I would have added posts? I could pull a buck and run, forget my password yah know, come back as P841 revisited.

Last post. WTF is up with that!

Carl, as you can see the most part is kids learning curve on driving and idiots (WB) making bad choices in the middle of the night. Last post, I have been gearing these guys up with a count down to 4,000 and retire. Have to say, some have been hook, line, and sinker. That damn James guy keeps messing with my count.
