Should I trade(yz 250)

I have a 2001 yz 125 and I like it a lot. But I struggle on long hill climbs and technical rocky areas. I got an offer for a 2004 yz 250... Here is the cl ad http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/5237791515.html he says that there is a weird sound in second gear but the entire bike was basically rebuilt. I'm wondering if I should take it. He wants me to throw in 200 bucks for it...

A 'weird noise' is suspect, but otherwise probably a good trade. -BIG DAN

My guess is the guy knows there is something more than just weird. He knows what his is worth. As long as you know you are splitting the cases to fix his, and probably spending on some new bearings along the way I would do that .

^^^ I'm with this. As long as you are comfortable with going through the bottom end. Do it!!

Here's the deal with trannies. (Quiet Jax. Same goes for the rest of ya) when 1 gear goes they all go and it's not easy to tell what is what. So plan on all gears, bushings and c-clips and while you're in there might as well do the shift forks, bearings and crank seals.
Just my advice.

I have a hard time NOT replacing forks anytime i have one split. mains and forks and any gaskets are kind of the minimum.

So I sold my 2001 yz 125 for 1300 cash, which is not bad. So I'm looking to get a 250 either ktm or yamahammer . I found this one it is a 2003 and he wants 1900. What should I offer him, because I'm not sure what the bike is worth. He says it has good compression and it was all gone through in 2013. He only rode it 10 times in 2014 and hasn't rode at all this. Just one your opinions guys. Thanks

19 is fair. Probably bring it home for 1800 I bet.
Without question install a brand new top end. Cheap insurance and you get a peak at the inside.

I got him down to 1600. I'm going to see how much compression it has. He says it has a lot but if it's about to blow up I'll talk him down to 1400
