2 Stroke Picked up a bargain SX50 today :)

Glad you’re getting your kid on a bike while they’re young……as far as hard starting after laying the bike down, shut off the gas as soon as you can, then turn the gas back on after you restart it, these bikes flood easy when tipped.

Okay.. Finally received the KTM clutch tool socket...
I removed the bolts on the clutch shoes and it has a spring with 2 washers...

I ordered the "Yellow SOFT springs", and fitted them.... Its still a tad too "snappy" for my daughter...
Can it be further adjusted with the washers?
Add / Remove a washer? to make clutch kick in at lower RPM?

cheers

The manual states...

It may just be me, But sometimes how it is written, Can easily confuse you.....
If you fit washer, the clutch engagement speed is increased?
Does that mean , It engages at lower rpm?

If so.. Then i need to add a washer... To reduce the rpm that it engages, A little...?!?!?

cheers

More washers Higher RPM
Less washers Lower RPM.
The less spring pressure, the easier it is for the centrifugal forces to engage the clutch.

Ahhh.
So i can remove one of the washers, and that should lower the rpm it bites?
Since its still a little too snappy for her.... rev rev rev..... GO.. :D
She likes it to be more like her old PW50..... gentle kicking in and pulling away...
She feels like she has more throttle control that way.. Instead of ON/OFF with the clutch...

I didnt do the best of job when fitting the graphics... I had no heat gun etc...
So it has a few creases here and there... Not really a big deal, Give it a few rides, The graphics will be scuffed up anyway...

But all in all.. My daughter absolutely loves her bike :D

The week of waiting for the clutch tool socket, was living hell for me.. Every day, my daughter asking if she can ride her bike yet :D

Okay.. had my daughter out on the local field yesterday evening... Yellow clutch springs in, and removed 1 washer...
PERFECT!!!
She is extremely confident with that setup!
It is crazy to see, when a kid is cofident with a bike setup, How much faster they are!

When i first bought the bike, the clutch bite scared her, and she was petrified of riding around, because honestly, it was WAAAAY too much!
But now... She rides straight off, and she was ripping it around the field.. Loved it so much, she just continued riding until we ran out of fuel :D

1 other small issue though...
The fuel tap / petcock..
When unscrewing it, to turn fuel on.... It doesnt really do much.. it just dribbles out very slowly..
You have to really give it that extra URGH, and give it that little bit of extra turn, when bottomed out, to make fuel flow correctly...
Now, im gathering, like most.. its an O ring inside?

Anyway of opening it and replacing the O ring? ive got a box of assorted O rings....

Cheers

It’s not bad to give them a little more to bite off than they can chew, it’ll help them move along faster in my opinion.

Well.. Update....
My daughter had her first track day, on the KTM today... and it went amazingly :)
We had our 2-way intercom on all the time... and it was a successful day.
Even when she was tired, She wanted to get back out on the track :D

Couple of small hickups occured.. Nothing major though...
The kickstart occasionally slips... Not a massive deal, i felt with my foot, when it wanted to slip, and only gave it a kick when it had bite...

Also... Bike ran a little boggy... Not low down revs... She could crawl around the track just fine, slowly....
But as soon as she got to a "jump" and needed a little extra acceleration to go up it... It bogged slightly... but then if she pulled the throttle back more.. It opened up and blasted.... So sort of like.. Inbetween low revs, and wanting to open it up... it would sound starved, for a short time...

I checked the carb needle, and noticed the previous owner had put the clip right at the top...
So i moved it back down to middle....

Hopefully that fixes it...

Other than that... A perfect day :)
