Newbie in S. Florida

Hey guys I just joined up and wanted to find some info out on a friend's bike I might buy. He has a near mint condition 1998 Honda XR650L that has lots of upgrades. I don't have a list yet of all the upgrades but I know everything was done right and top of the line parts.

What do you guys think about these bikes in general? Are they know to have any bad issues? Anything I should be sure to check on before buying?

Lol no I'm a yacht photographer. 70/30 city/Everglades trails. Also just to help out a little on fuel, I have a Ford Raptor that loves gas stations.

Welcome Dave!

The XR650 is a heavy bike more suited for roads and the wide open country of the left coast. Its a great offroader when it can stretch its legs. The XR motors are basically bullet proof and require little more than oil changes and fresh airfilters. The only thing I would watch for is internal engine mods. Radical cams and internal motor work seem to eat these things up. Bolt on mods like exhaust systems and revlimiters seem to do no harm.

One of the things on my bucket list is to run the glades on an airboat... ....... .......

They refer to the XR's as the "King of the Desert" because of how well they perform(ed) in baja, etc. I had an 85 XR600... it was plush, the first single shock bike I owned.
