New bike on a budget

I have about $250 and would like to get a bike. I have a go cart frame that I would trade as well. Preferably a 4 stroke manual transmission.

Your post doesn't state where you are from so I cant check the usual sources for bikes, and you also dont state what size bike you want or what your intent with one is.
Having said that, there are not a lot of options for $250.00.
Bikes are easier to come by in that price range in the midwest. If you live there you might be able to get an older early-to-mid 80's bike.
Any bike in that price range is going to need some work, probably a lot. Ask me, I know. I buy $250.00 bikes, but they come in boxes.
Smaller bikes will be cheaper than larger ones.
Finding someone that is trying to sell an older bike that is also willing to accept your go-cart as partial payment probably wont be easy either.
I think it can be done, but it will take some time and effort and maybe some luck...
And dont expect it to be pretty.
Just my $.02.

Can get a Chinese bike for that.
For me thats a lot like just giving a random person 250 bucks.
Last Christmas I was out in the garage installing some new parts on the whatever, and dude comes buy and sees me working on bikes, and asks me if I could look at this little Chinese thing he just bought for his daughter. It was literally 3 hours old and it stopped running.
I took a look at it and told him to return it if possible. A complete waste of money.

I hear that BigDan has one that roosts, but I've never seen one. The only Chinese bikes I ever see are rotting in peoples back yards.

I have several Chinese bikes, and I will not recommend them to anyone.
Engines are absolutely bulletproof, and the entire electrical system/fuel delivery system can be replaced for $30-$50 on ebay.
The frames, wheels, tires, and suspension are GARBAGE. If you ride it, you will destroy it and have a shelf full of motors that run perfect. Trust me on this one.
Hella fun if you can develop repairs on the fly to fix things that are not commonly repairable, but I'm running out of "hard parts." -BIG DAN:thumb:

Here is a sample of what you get for $300 or less in the southwest United States.
In a nutshell - you can get a running late 60's thru 1970's 80-200cc bike, you can get a running newer (mid 90's to mid 2000's) small bike 50cc, you can get a complete 80's thru 90's bike non-running, or you can get part of a newer bike.

Go get this one. That’s a KE100. Cool little bike and fun to zip around the hood with.

Some of those bikes are potentially a good ride for about $1000. Sadly, some of them aren't worth $500 in great condition.
I tell all people looking for a bike on a tight budget. Get $1000 in your hand, then look for a bike in the $500 range, and spend $500 making it right. There are endless $1000 bikes in my area.
