Eriel,

Lets get some sizes of you. You can begin on anything with proper discipline, but if the bikes to tall and/or powerful it can be intimidatin.

Yamaha:
2 stroke
YZ80-85, smaller wheels 19f 17r
YZ125-250, standard 21f 19r
Seat height different
4 stroke
TT125 230
Honda:
2 Stroke
250 etc. about the same and older models. Stopped making 2T around 2006-7
4 stroke
100, 150, 230, 250, etc.

im about 5 foot 9 130lbs_140lbs iwas looking at a suzuki85cc hows that for a start?

4 stroke will be low, slow power.

2 stroke will be high rev, quick power.

If you can handle the high rev, then look to a 2 stroke 125CC yamaha.

If you want to putt around and learn technic and control get a 4 stroke TT230, CRF 230. At your size you should be looking at full size bikes. 21" front wheel, 18-19" rear.

None of those are particularly good learners. I have a good time when I get on one though. Light, quick (surprisingly so) and you can turn them around fast. The suzuki isn't as friendly ergos wise as far as I am concerned to someone over 5'7" as the cr or the yz. the suzuki engine with the powervalve has a friendlier easier to trail ride note to it.

If you have one handy I would say buy some gear and get started.

If you want to look for something in the 4 stroke range that is affordable and reliable the xr200 or crf230, tt225 or 230, or KDX (two stroke that acts like a 4 stroke) are good choices. My feeling is that a 125 4 stroke wont keep you happy as a primary rider for very long, but they are a nice beginning and great keeper should lighter people want to ride with you in the future.
