2 Stroke Maybe clutch problems?

I have a 96 250 exc. It will idle fine and rides great until I hold clutch and come to a stop. As long as I give it gas it stays running.

Sounds like clutch is grabbing, does it try to lurch or creep forward at all when in gear and clutch lever pulled in? You could try adjusting free play into clutch cable, or maybe change the oil in the transmission.
