Can I put a 2003 RM 125 motor on my 1996 RM 125?

I blew the bottom end of my 1996 RM 125. Because I have been unable to find a bottom end, I am considering swapping out the whole motor. I haven't found a 1996 but I did find a 2003. Will this work? Is it compatible? ie. My carb and such. Or would I have to replace the carb as well? ..etc.



Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Direct swap? Probably not, but if you are good with "making things work" I would say yeah it will fit. It would take some engineering, more than likely.

Probably not something most people would want to deal with.

What do you need for the bottom end?if it's crank and bearings, you should be able to find every thing you need for about 400 bucks. But if your intent on swapping motors, sure, you could put almost any motor in there, just need do some Macgyvering to do it.

Heres some parts that might help.... to do it yourself the first time including hard parts, gaskets and tools (you'll still need the shop to press the crank for you about $50) will cost about $450 plus the cost of a top end if needed and about 8hrs. To have a shop do it will cost about the same but that's a one shot deal. do it yourself and you'll have the tools, earn the knowledge and have the ability to work on your next bike with confidence....
