250 99 KX250 Oil Change

So this might be a dumb question, but im new to dirt bikes. I recently did a oil change to my bike and now it is leaking from somewhere? Its possibly coming from my oil drain plug. Was there some type of seal that i didn't notice when I took it out?

Copper crush washer most likely, and hopefully! Should be changed every oil change but quite often it gets overlooked! Either that or you over tightened the sump plug and cracked the case! Hopefully not!
Did you tighten it hard? Did you turn it the wrong way when initially loosening it?

Some have copper seals , some use Teflon , or rubber O ring . I always use Teflon tape on threads . No need for exassive torque ..

I didn't tighten it that much, I didn't realize it was a crush washer. Would you know if any hardware store or auto parts store carry them? or would it just be easier to get offline?

The drain plug on my bike has a solid copper washer. Before I reinstall the plug, I resurface the washer on piece of 320 sandpaper laying on the semi-flat garage floor. I’ve been using the same washer for 5 years with no leaks. It is getting pretty thin, though. :smirk:

Would you know if any hardware store or auto parts store carry them?
They should carry something that will work. The vinyl ones are just as good IMO, maybe even better. Just find one that fits and use it. They usually come in a pack of 3 or 4.
