250 98 KX 250 transmission how to install properly

Hi all James here I just thought i'd take a shot at posting a forum Ive already split the cases on my 98 kx 250 and thought I had fixed my 4th gear shifting issue but after reinstalling I couldn't find neutral and seems to be stuck in gear all shift forks looked good not bent or anything
Im really just looking for some guidance on how to install the transmission the right way i know ill have to split the cases and get back into it
I've never installed one before, I want to try n do it right this time if anyone can help your advice would be greatly appreciated.

1st - what was/is your 4th gear shifting issue?
2nd - some pics might help.
3rd - some of us here are smarter than others...be careful who you take advice from.
4th - known guru's are BigDan, Palmer, Mikey, 2wheels, 2-stroke Steve, Red, Andy (if he's still alive), and a couple more. If I forgot anyone, sorry, you'll get over it.
5th - Welcome to DBA!
6th - wait for a response, most of the above mentioned guru's are old AF! But they know their shit.
IMO - double-check everything.
Some of the big dogs will be be along shortly to help you out...

Also - expect some hazing, and have some thicker skin; dick jokes, gay/fag jokes and pics, all par for the course here at DBA.
If you're sensitive, good luck!

Welcome!

1st let me correct and allow myself to introduce myself. you will forever refer to me or address me as the following: your majesty, creator of all that is midget porn like, My Lord, my Master, commodore, your excellency, the great purveyor or simply Nurse Lisa’s most loved dirty sex stick. You may only call me Mikey after you buy me lunch, dinner or the occasional snack. :thumb:

The 1st question is, do you have a manual?
If not GET ONE!
2: it may be binding slightly so be sure to spin the countershaft sprocket while you try and shift.
3: it’s easy to miss place a bushing or washer while assembling or miss a worn item. Even slightly worn items can cause shifting issues. .

no no no no dont lump me in with those guys.
I’m not very popular, but I do have a few fans.
I make tools out of other tools.
I break stuff while I’m fixing stuff.
I mixed fuel in my oil.
My screwdrivers are just pointless awls.
I have used at least 5 different types of hammers on my motorcycle.
I say I true my own rims, and while that’s true, the rim isn’t, but the truth and the rim have both been spoken. It’s hard to do a rim job with a ding in it, but I got it licked. There’s three types of people in the world, those who can count and those who can’t, so don’t lump me in with those guys, they’re full of shit and I keep it wheel. 2wheel for y’all bichez
I gotta go to work now, I need to go make a few dollars and then make cents of it all.

The best advice has already been given. get a manual, follow it. Being this is your first time posting on a forum you may encounter a bit of smart ass but if you re-read your initial post you may realize why. You can’t say, “I took my motor apart and I put about together and it doesn’t work what did I do wrong? Little bit tough to remedy your situation with a quick and easy answer. So we goof off

Start at the beginning , take it All apart , clean All parts , open manual , or pdf , step by step . Piece by piece , if it looks like it needs changing , do it ... Sorry , we can't hold your hand , or do it for you .. lube as you go , fit and check .... time is your friend . It's easier than you think ... YOU CAN DO IT ! ! ! .....

alright everyone I appreciate the info I tore the engine back down looks like a bushing was left out:doh: and some of the gears are messed up Prob just gonna have to order a new transmission and shift forks, all be posting up some pics in a little bit
