5 Miles of Hell Part 1

In April, I was in the Moab, Utah area for ten days. On ride day 8, I headed out to ride the Five Miles of Hell Trail, in the San Rafael Swell region.

I have never ridden this trail/area before. I needed to get back to camp before noon to join a group of riders from Grand Junction, Colorado that planned an afternoon loop on the North side of I-70. Or a search and rescue ride to find me if I was not back by 4:00pm.

How long do you think it will take for me to ride the 5MOH? Total elapsed time, including stops.

How is it riding 90% rock face? Is the traction really good as expected? or more slippery?
You have the best videos and always ride the best trails!

Now I've never been there, but riding 5MOH alone? For the first time? That's hardcore. Really hardcore. I hope that you at least ride with a SPOT or something.

can't wait for the rest of the vids! i've been watching that trail on youtube a lot and once i get me a 250 or 300 2t i'm heading for it!

Man that looks like a fun one. I need to get out there sometime. When is the best to go, spring?

Spring or cool Fall days. One would not want to get caught out on those exposed rocks on a hot day.

Traction on the rocks is good. The transitions from the rock to the sand is interesting. The sand is very soft and deep. In addition, many imbedded rocks or loose rocks that are not visable.

I did tell the group that I hoped to meet, for a afternoon ride, the loop I was riding. If I did not make it back by 4:00pm to come look for me.

What camera was used? gopro hd?

I used a Contour 720p on this ride.

I had a feeling you used a contour, because of the sound quality, I could here every breath you took haha.

I modified my Contour camera to have a plug in lavalier mic, which is mounted in my helmet, about a 1/4" from my nose.

Impressive for the contour. Where do you have it mounted in this video? -BIG DAN:thumb:

Under the visor. I had to make a small spacer to get the correct angle. Then a couple holes to zip tie it onto the visor. Important to have the rear holes widely spaced to keep zip-tie from interfering with the on off switch.
