250 1977 ke 250 oil leak

About an hour ago I finally got the 250 that I bought ready to fire up. I got it from a neighbor who had it sitting in his shed for +10 years I freshened up the carb and cleaned the tank. It fired on about the 4th kick and I noticed an oil leak start at the stator cover. I killed it and pulled off the cover and I'm pretty sure it dumped all the oil that it contained. Is the oil supposed to be able to be there? If so I think the gasket probably had a chunk missing. Im pretty new to the bike world, any help is appreciated. thanks

The KE has oil in the transmission, but is injection fed premix oil. The oil pump is located in the front half of the cover.
Could be either oil coming from the right hand case. -BIG DAN:thumb:
