250F 2004 Crf250R Rebuild

As most of you know i seized my neighbors bike which i borrowed. Yesterday i started to tear down the bike to figure out what happened and broke. This will be the rebuild threat and will post pictures up keeping you all updated on the build.

Got the engine out last night. Drained the oil(s) and coolant. oil seems pretty clean, however when i took out the oil filter there was a ton of medal shavings on the filter, looked to be aluminum not steel, so piston or bearing? I will get more pictures later today when i open the engine up a bit more.

I was able to get the top end removed today and get an idea of what the damage is.

I found some more chunks of medal looking like rings, or possible bearings.

After removing the head completely i saw where the medal pieces seem to be coming from, From the top view it looks like the crank rod bearing is the little faggot who decided to take a shit.

these are the only good pictures i could take of it

I am having trouble getting the fly wheel off, so i will be making a homemade flywheel holder tool when i get some time later today. I did remove the piston and here are the pictures.

I will be able to clean the top pretty easy so am not worried.

Now, here is some damage to the bottom of the piston

Is that enough damage to replace the piston, or just rings? thoughts on this?

If there is no damage to the outer surface of the skirt, crown or pin journals... then you could get away with running it again. I would file/sand down those nicks and chips so they don't continue to deteriorate.

If it were me, I'd probably replace it. -BIG DAN:thumb:

Here is a update, i have not worked on it due to not having a flywheel puller, i was about to get one last night so now i will be able to move forward and split the case. I asked the shop what causes a connecting rod bearing to go and he said most likely due to worn out piston and other parts. So like you guys have said its not my fault...

He said to fix the bearing you need to press in and out the rod from the crank, they quoted $130 to do the work if i bring them the crank assembly. So $130 in labor, about $130 for a connecting rod and bearing. So i see what you mean it will be cheaper to get a hot rods crank assembly off ebay for under $200.

So right now here is my parts list....

1. Piston + Rings
2. oil filter and strainer?
3. Gasket kit
4. Crank Assembly
5. spark plug

Hopefully nothing else it damage...
