What Lubricant's, filter oils and cleaners do you use?

Seriously? Good grief - an oil mixture thread?
Well since you asked - I only use chilled Perrier water at 32:1
Why the frick would anyone actually ask this question?
Did I say seriously yet? :smirk:

If you had been around as long as some of us you would know that THIS particular question has been asked nuuuuuumerous times resulting in endless debates on what works, what sucks, who sucks, why they suck, why their SISTER sucks (or in some cases doesn't), etc.....

Now to add MY 2 cents...

Old school ...

I use GAS (unleaded because that's what's available) to clean the filter, I don't let it soak, I dunk ring, squeeze the piss (or gas in this case) out of it repeatedly until it is clean then I rinse (usually with water from the hose (I know, unsafe, should use bottled but WTF... I'm old school)
Wrap a rag/towel around it and dry as much as possible then set it out to air dry
ONCE DRY...
Apply light amount of 2t oil all over it (because it's lower viscosity but more so because I still had it in my bike shit box from my 2t days).
Apply a decent amount of waterproof grease to the filter end and the area where it sits in the filter box.
Then install it and close it up!

Ride and repeat... never had a failure, never had a filter dry up and crumble as some say would happen...

and THIS was back when I rode all the time.... :givesthebirdtothoseabouttoflameonmebecauseidon'trideenoughtohaveaproblem:

Natch... I got your back :thumb:

Oh then this will get you really fired up. I use Rotella T in my kx250f.

I'm also a fan of the No Toil cleaning products however I used them on Twin Air filters.

When someone tells me he only uses 'motorcycle specific products' I know then that as boring as some marketing classes were, that the art is at least effective.

Thanks for your input, however I was also hoping to find out how many people had a lower end failure even if they were using the recommended pre mix ratio by the manufacturer......and by the way you were one of 2 or 3 people I was sure would respond first.....I expect 2 smoke and Big Dan next.

I have never had a bottom end failure while running the manufacture recommended premix ratio. Way back on the way back machine 30 something years ago when my dad got us into dirt bikes we only ran Blendzall products for premix. I dont recall what we used in the gear box. But anyway......... I have ruined many a cylinder and or crank bearing from deviating from the manufactures premix ratio. But that was because I was young and dumb and dad was footing the bill. When dad lost interest and I had to start paying for may own parts and maintenance I realized that doing what the manual stated was the best way to go. When I finally learned that you adjust the jetting and not the premix ratio to get what your looking for Ive never had any crank bearing issues or cylinder issues there after.

Now 2stokesteve89, Your an adult and responsible for your own actions with what you do or do not do. If it works for you I say go for it. But the manufactures have engineers that figure out what to use and how much to use to get the best performance from their machines. I figure they are way smarter than I am so its best to do what that manual states in my opinion. Thats all I got on this topic.

Big Dan has good info.
As a kid I had a lot of bottom end failures because of the type of oil I was using. To the point were my dad was buying boxes of bearings. He had it stuck in his mind that wolveshead premix was good for any 2T and he was right to some extent. Ended up running 12:1 in that little air cooled cr60 oil eater. Once I switched to zook in 84 along with water cooling and the dealer cut us a cash deal on Suzuki cci did I start using the motorcycle specific stuff @20:1. 1983 was the last time I had a bottom end seizure that I can actually remember.

So whats that make me? Chopped liver?

Chrome it too.
nos it.

Kinda funny this thread has popped up, I can no longer order Kal Gard products for whatever reason, they were all fantastic, but in the interm, I've poured rotella t into both sides of the CRF. I might try the T6 5w40 in the engine if this ends up being what I use.

Run the straight 15-40 rottella.

I think you're onto something, the CRF has been the only bike I've had that puffed white smoke when cold, even when it was fresh off a rebuild, it doesn't do that with the 15w40

I run the rottella in the TTR. Everything else gets bike specific stuff.

White smoke is coolant.
not always.

ran the crf for 2 hours today, no smoke and the oil levels not down :) I still would rather pour in something nicer than rotella t, and by that I don't mean something that just says Motorcycle Specific, and I'd rather run rotella t than Lucas.

I hate lucas almost as much as coors light, almost.

You have used coors light in your bikes crankcase?
