Question About a Suzuki

So my brother turned 13 and we bought him a 2003 Suzuki 125(F) DR-Z, this thing still has its stickers and not a single scratch on any part of the body.

Today I took his old 199* Kawasaki KX 60(T), and he took his new Suzuki... We went out into the hills to just mess around and test his new toy.

I weigh 150lbs on that little 60cc. But that Kawasaki was cleaning his lights out... If the suspension could have held my weight, it would have been embarrassing... I am extremely disappointed, the only thing better about this new Suzuki is its height...

We switched bikes to make sure I wasn't just a better rider, but same thing... That kawasaki smoked the suzuki in every category...

Anyone know why this little Kawasaki is outrunning and out preforming this Suzuki... I know that a two stroke has a turbo like power band, but there's no way a 60cc should out-preform any 125... We bought new plugs, and it did nothing... We are going to mess with the Carb next chance we get, but I don't understand this... That Suzuki has a little torque in 1st and 2nd but no power in any gear...

Thanks for the help guys

Those Kawasaki KLX 125's and DRZ 125's are the same exact bike. All parts are interchange able.

Both bikes need to be modified to make decent power. They are just turds.

The KX60 is a 2stroke which will make some power, where the 125 4 stroke is going to be a turd, with its old school technology.

I had a klx125(Same as your drz125) And i did the follow mods.......

Pulled the spark arrester out of the pipe. Andded the little chrome tip to the pipe, you can buy on ebay for like 25bucks.....

Pulled the head pipe off, and on the inside of the header pipe where it meets the head,i opened it up a little bit with a carbide boring bit.

Installed a yamaha ttr 125 adjustable throttle piston pin.

Rejetted carb and adjusted.

pulled the baffle out of the top of the air box and cut the top out a bit.

Thanks man, with those mods was there any more guts added. Or would you suggest selling the bike and getting a 125(two-stroke) for him?

We are considering selling both the new 125, and 60 for some money and buying him a 125 t-smoke...

If you are looking to race or something more than a pit bike, I'd sell it. But thats just me... They are good bikes, they just don't make alot of power.

Simply put, a two stroke effectively has twice the displacement of a 4stroke, as the 2t makes power on every revolution and the 4t makes power on every other revolution, so even if you have half the displacement of a 4skin the smoker will produce close to the same power, if not more. Now keep in mind were talking race bikes against race bikes, and trail v.s. Trail, if you match a 2 strokeMX bike up against 4skin trail bike in the same scenario, the difference is more noticeable yet. Now I wouldn't classify the 125 DR-Z as a trail bike even, I think I would go with BK's assessment of the bike as a turd....yup turd it is.

Yah, we are not racing. We ride trails for fun. We wanted to get him a 125 so he can learn the powerband of a 4stroke so when he upgrades to a 250 or 450 it won't be a culture shock.

This little suzuki has tons of torque for his weight, when we climb hills that thing just trucks... But the Kawasaki still beats it, even when I am on that thing.

But there is one other thing... It doesn't idle unless we play with the throttle like a hoonigan. I am thinking that the wire is too loose.(Even though the throttle handle feels fine). But could this bike have a carb issue?

This thing is running super rich... I am honestly thinking the past owner farted around with the carb and messed something up... This bike has a top speed of like 35-40mph... Gets to that speed in about a near half mile.

don't waste your money on modding the zook,it's always going to be a play bike.
depending on his height i'd get him a 85 or 125 2 stroke once he learns how to work the clutch on the zook.
