My first time on a track

This past Sunday I brought my 95 XR200 to the local track. It was my first time ever riding on a track.
I had a frigging blast even though I was the slowest bike there.
But I was cool with that cuz I'm 45 years old, been broken, have no ego anymore, and just wanted to make sure I made it to work Monday morning.

Below is a link to the first of 3 video's I posted on a new YouTube channel that I created especially for this type of stuff, mainly for having a place to store videos other than my hard drive as they are quite large, and for a place to put vid's of my boy, and a new LLC we are starting together with a friend of mine, hence the name BaDaZ.
I'm in no way trying to say that we are badass, but it works well for the company name since the first letters of our names are B, D, and Z.

The total run-time of the 3 vids is about 27 minutes.
If you are so inclined to watch them, I am very open to any critiques, criticism's, advice, what have you.

I layed the XR over in the first few minutes of video 3. I guess that tracks get a bit slippery when they get dry? I was also tired, and had much arm-pump happening; had to take many breaks.

I also have questions about handlebars. Mine were fine when trail riding, but I grew to dislike them at the track, and changed their position once, without much more satisfaction. They just didn't feel right, and I felt like they we're wearing me out. The throttle grip felt like it was too far out...if that makes sense. I'm pretty sure they're not bent...

I met some cool folks with kids and will be bringing the kiddo there this weekend, and am sure he will love it. I cant wait to get back out there and pick up the pace. Will post more vids of him after, since he is the reason for all of this.

Cool deal! I love track riding. Have a few riding buddies who trail only and refuse doing mx with me and I try to tell them what they're missing. And of course they have mx bikes lol. Sure the punishment for mistakes is there, but its silly to think trail riding is any safer.. Stay on point and don't ride over your head, and have fun.
Oh and I did a similar thing, taking a '94 DR350 to the track.. wasn't long before I had another bike for that application.
It may feel like it's the bars, but really, it's the bars. and the forks. and the shock. and the frame. and the motor.

Where was the track and how far is it from Scottsdale?
Wife wants to go back to AZ. I just want to ride.....

Track is in Casa Grande, and is about an hour and a half from Snottsdale. If you come back out lets go. I love that shit. There are a couple other tracks here as well that I would like to check out. One is called ACP?, and it's in Buckeye. I've heard it better, longer, and nicer.

the track will help with cornering, braking and aggressiveness
Boy you ain't joking there. All those things got better in the four hours I was there. Way better.
I am now looking for another bigger bike. I didn't like getting passed, same as on the road, lol.
Looking forward to this weekend.

Yeah, I get it now. That's a nice way of saying it's me.
Totally understood now, and thank you!
That's why I come here; awesome and truthful info, even if it hurts, lol!

He means the bike is a bit 'trail oriented' for MX. I doubt he meant your skills are lacking. -BIG DAN:thumb:

Thanks for the input Dan, but I didn't take it to mean my skills are lacking, even though they are!
I took it as...well, a nice way of saying I need some more track time, and I will get used to it.
I was in no way offended, and appreciate his comment.
BTW - I think I rode that trail bike like a race bike at the end of the day.
Cant wait to go back and do it again!
But I do see a YZ250 in my near future...

I took my beloved DR350 from the top of the mountain to the bottom and back again. I crossed rivers up to my knees without a belch. Crazy night ride adventures. To hell and back and still had gas in the tank. I thought there was nothing we couldn't do.
Then I went to the mx track for the first time. There was the fork in the road where my best friend and I had to part ways. It was then I realized i brought a cannonball to a knife fight. I needed a racehorse and I was riding a pack mule.

Yep, two different tools from two different schools. It is funny though, taking something with a workable suspension and light weight really downplays what the engine is doing.

That pack mule has served me well. It was just the right bike to allow me to catch up on 30 years worth of not riding a dirt bike, and I am thankful for it. But after last weekend at the track...yeah I need something bigger and faster.
I hate being passed.

Also, I took a lap around the newly configured "National" track at the end of the day.
I tried it first thing in the morning but hit a jump that I wasn't expecting to pop me up as high as it did and it scared the shit outta me.
Then my tires filled with mud and my XR200 didn't have the power to get through it so early, so I got off.
But there were some dudes killing it on that track.
Maybe I should post the vid to my youtube channel so you guys can check it out?
M33 has already asked about it and Gary isn't too terribly far...
Let me know.
