Help Deciding On Bike

Hi,
I am looking for a bike that will be mainly used for trail riding but still something thats got some power and speed. I am 5 foot 9, 135 lbs. I have got a lot of different suggestions but dont know. I have been told to get a 125 2 stroke, a 250 4 stroke enduro. I dont know which bike to get. Let me know what bike you think would be best for me. Thanks.

KTMs are a bit expensive for my first bike. Would a Kawasaki KDX200, or Yamaha YZ 250 be good?
Out of the two i would pick the kdx200. I have one and love how it rides on the trails. It's great for a beginner. The yz would be a lighter faster bike but the kdx is more trail oriented. I also have a rm250 like the yz they can make a great trail bike but they tend to wear you out faster due the power and pull on the arms. Personally I like my rm better. Just because I like to have my arms ripped out of socket and my oldest needs something to ride.

Would a 250 4 stroke be a good bike? my dad would prefer me to get a four stroke. like a wr250f

125 would NOT make an ideal trail bike.

Why XR? I was thinking something a little newer

The xr is a great bike, versatile and very low maintenance. An excellent 1st bike for a stump jumper. (Trail guy)
The kdx's you can't go wrong with either. The yz might be a bit much for you in the right stuff though until you get some seat time.

if your dad is in the decision making process, he's probably leaning you toward a thumper due to the mixing fuel/oil. Most modern day four strokes like the WR's are not like the XR's of the past. These newer four strokes needs lots of attention to detail maintenance wise. Changing oil, filters, and adjusting valves way more than that of the XR's. Air cooled four bangers are way less maintenance. I would say if he is wanting you to ride a four stroke trail bike and he wants less maintenance of his own to do for you. Then pick a CRF230. Rock solid!! :thumb:

The ktm 200 and kdx 200 were designed fir the same purpose. Both are easy to ride, light, torquey 2 strokes that can idle all day. The ktm will blow the kdx away in suspension and power and frame geometry though (2004 plus)
