69 VW Bug - Project

GMan has wanted to rebuild an old car for a while now. So we decided on a VW Bug. We set out to find a 69 or 70. The plan is to put it back to somewhat original. We picked it up 3/1/2012. This is going to take a while..........

Here it is on a trailer the day we picked it up.

TIme to let the work begin.

Not bad shape!!!! I would say nice find!!!

Need a parts source? Remember, I worked for VOA from 1978 to 1984 in the Parts department, finished my career as an ASS istant Manager. :smirk:

J-bugs to start for misc, they have a good catalog! And West Coast Metric for most if not all Rubber seals. Couple of other places as well depending on what you want to do to the Trans and Engine….

Hell, I am still working on my 69 Westfalia Camper I have had since 82 and restored once. It is now going on 7 years PNO. When he is done and it looks good, send him over to my house. My kids are lazy and all they do is look for the hand out...:banghead:

Sweet! :thumb: this will be a fun project. How is the floor under the back seat where the battery sits? That is always prone to rusting out. Going to stay with a stock look, Baja style or street? Going one piece windows? What's your take on the motor? 1600 single, Duel port, 1776, 1835? I might have to stop by and turn some wrenches on this thing. It has been a long time since I worked on my old VWs.
No DBA sticker on the fridge? :smirk:
I see a couple:prof:

cool stuff... let G man know that my mother raising a child as a single parent rebuilt a bug all by herself. I watched her replace a entire motor alone. There should be some motivation to make it bad ass :smirk:

that is nice!!! :thumb: better tell sunshine to get a job so he can buy those parts! haha those are fun to work on because they are easy to work on! you should put a stinger exhaust system on it so you can here were he is at KTM Rack! Baja-Bug-Suspension.jpg
