450F 2000 YZ426F

I am looking to buy my first dirt bike. I have been riding street for several years and I went to look at a 2000 YZ426F and I wanted to know if there is anything I should look for before I buy it and if there is any known problems with these bikes.
Thanks

Standard things. Exhaust smoke. Hard starting. Are the valves close to being in spec? The main bearing on the left side of the engine is easy to check. Remove the cover and lean over the seat and pull up and gown on the flywheel rotor. If you feel any movement at all, The bearing is bad and most likely the rod bearing is too. So it's split the cases time. Honestly I wouldn't buy anything that is nearly 17 years old without budgeting for top end Bottom end and some transmission parts and oil pump.

Unless it's like the 2004 WR I just picked up. It had under 20 hours on it.

Yes. Good deals on good rigs are out there if you know what you are looking for. When you know the rig's history you can plan and budget more closely, but answering a cl which has the standards buzzwords ("low time top end" or "recent overhaul") more often than not ends up being more costly than guessed and definitely more costly than "hoped" for.

usually when i find a bike like that, the owner thought it would be easy and that he would never fall off. then the bike sits for 8-12 years and he wants the same amount he paid for it "because it is really a new bike, and they don't make them like this anymore". I love being addressed like I am as clueless as the one "addressing" me.
