RM125 1998 Transmission Problem

Hey guys! Looking for some help on a transmission issue. Broke the long shift fork shaft. Replaced it with OEM. After reassembly and test drive, 1st gear -3rd gear work fine. Shift into 4th gear and there is grinding for a second or 2 then rear wheel lock up. Any insight , help and info much appreciated.

Complete rear wheel lock up when shifting into 4th gear?

Just my 2 cents,
Sounds like it needs to be completely disassembled again and inspected for damage/cracking.

How did you break the shift fork originally? Was it hard to shift before it broke?

Something wasn't installed correctly if it worked fine before you replaced the shift fork.

Another thing bugging me is that the OEM shift fork could be wrong, somehow. :noidea:
Can you compare it to the old one?

It was a broken shift fork shaft, not the fork itself. However, while doing more research on another forum I ran into this thread- http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/1101103-2005-rm-250-having-problems-with-3rd-gear/ . The pics of his trans and fork damage is identical to mine.

Been ther, done that on my 06 rm. It was worn dogs and spacers that caused mine to jump gears. However you are locking up which sounds as I the tranny is some how binding 2 gears at the same time.

Well, we went through the trans again. Thought we found the problem as we went step by step to reassemble the trans. Found I had place a thrust washer where a snap ring should be. Finished reassembly and still same prob. Guess I will try to replace the spacers and forks. Did see some wear on some of the dogs as well. BTW, would a complete trans from a 97 work in the 98.

All the dogs should have a square edge. Be sure that all the circlips are installed correctly and that they are new. I once made the mistake of reusing a circlip in a trans.... That was my 3rd tranny I did in as many weekends...
The zooks have a pretty sensitive trans.
