so I took the trade and the bike has a nice set up it has pro circuit suspension a msr clutch and a racing carb

but needs alot more than I was told theres a little crack way beneath the kick start on the casing the piston looks bent on the edge on the bottom there seems to be a rough edge in one of the holes in the top end ill try and get a pic of the inside of the top end
What should I do try and replace the top end if it indeed is bad or should I change the piston and rings and see if it works out I dont want to wast money for good
Also I got the bike with the piston out so it has 0 compression in it for now will changing the piston and putting rings give it compression? Im new to this bike stuff

I would pull the side cover and see what broke it like that. I imagine, if there is clearance, you can fix that cover with JB weld, or quiksteel. Not good for the long haul, but it'll hold oil.

Piston is shot, I see the rings are seized.
Can't imagine the cylinder looks very good.... Post up a good photo of the bore if you can.

I'd measure the bottom end play as well before you get much further.

WELCOME! We can walk you through anything.... -BIG DAN:thumb:

you may want to put a 100 kit in it if you have to replace the cyl. The KX from that era was a bolt on kit from Kawasaki to do this.

I know the only difference from my 2001 kx100 from an 85 is the cylinder is bored out. I'm not sure about porting however.

The 105 kits as they are called that you can get from people like Eric Gorr should be available for that one too. Kawasaki just pretty much did as Emily stated and bored the 80's and 85's, and didnt restore the full porting that the smaller bore had. Makes a more user friendly powerband with the option to "port" up if you want. The non power valved engine used to make a great hop up for top end.
